Women’s Aspire Programme ready for second round
July 2, 2019 | by Matt Halfpenny
The second round of the Women’s Aspire Programme takes place at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Sunday (7th July), where organisers are keen to build on the success of the first round in May.
80 female boxers – from minors to elite level – and 27 coaches came together in the GB Boxing gym where they participated in a series of workshops.
The programme has been established to help develop and strengthen the standard and depth of women’s boxing across the country.
Those taking part were chosen by their respective regions (up to 10 boxers each) by whatever criteria they saw fit, with best attendance, most improved, most potential and boxers not getting many bouts included as reasons for selection.
They are asked to arrive for Sunday’s session at 11.30am for a 12noon start, with a finish time of 5pm.
The address is the GB Boxing Gym, EIS, Coleridge Road, Sheffield, S9 5DA.
All boxers will need to have a medical in date and a 2019/2020 stamp in their card to confirm their registered for this season – failure to supply the BCR1 will result in the boxer being unable to take part in the day.
Each regional secretary has been sent all of the relevant information which will be distributed to the selected girls from each region.
Lead coach on the day is Amanda Coulson, who can be contacted on 07710 097820 in the event of queries.
