Team England return from the Brandenburg Cup in Germany. The team, consisting of Conner Tudsbury, Karol Itauma, Hassan Azim and Hope Price have used this competition as preparation for the Youth World Championships in August.

H.Price v Owen McDonagh (Ire) 5:0 GOLD

McDonagh started with the tactics of rushing into attacks at Hopey, trying not to let Hopey settle into his usual boxing style. This lead to a scappy first round with both boxers smothering their work. The second saw Hopey establish his range and tempo behind his commanding jab and rear hand counter. The third saw McDonagh tire as he was unable to sustain the high tempo he set in the early rounds. Hopey commanded this round with strong single shots that continuously knocked McDonaghs head back.

Hopey boxed three times in three days beating opponents from Kazakhstan,  Russia and Ireland to secure Gold. He was also voted Best Techincal Boxer of the tournament by the officials.

Karol brought home a bronze medal for Team England.

Connor, Karol and Hassan have used this tournament as a prep camp and ran in the morning. Then competed in a sparring session with Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Germany and Belarus prior the finals

Coach Mick Driscoll  spoke about the event saying ‘It was a great learning experience for everyone involved. We have found this we can work on and improve upon, ahead of the Youth World Championships. It was a great effort by the whole team.’

The AIBA Youth Men & Womens Championships will be held from the 20-31st of August in Budapest, Hungary.
