Coronavirus update (23rd September)

Further to the UK government’s announcement yesterday that it would be tightening the restrictions in England due to the significant increase in Coronavirus cases, England Boxing has now been able to clarify from the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport (DCMS) and Sport England as to what is permitted for its membership.

Provided Clubs and Members follow the England Boxing guidelines (as these follow what DCMS permits) – including the recording of details for each visit for test and trace purposes – then they are allowed to continue to train as previously detailed.

This is because by following the England Boxing guidelines, Clubs are providing a COVID-secure environment in which to train. Regrettably, this means pad work, sparring and competitive boxing is still not permitted.

However, by following the guidelines, it means the participants can be safe and Clubs and coaches are not exposed to lack of insurance cover or breaches of the government’s laws and regulations, and the potential fines that are now associated with them.

Clubs are reminded, however, that whilst they can continue to operate with the numbers decided in their Risk Assessment, people should remain socially distanced by 2m and not congregate in groups of more than six both within venues and going to and from them.

Please be assured that England Boxing fully understands the impact on people’s lives, as well as the frustrations and limitations this places on Clubs and boxers. We would, once again, like to thank all those who have supported and adhered to these regulations, and, in doing so, allowed indoor training to continue, albeit, we accept, in a limited way.

We continue to lobby the DCMS for a further easing of restrictions as to what is permitted and that the health and safety of all concerned, along with their families, remains England Boxing’s number one priority.
