Punch Like A Girl graduate sets up lockdown-inspired women-only sessions

An England Boxing Level One coach who secured her qualification as a member of the female-only Punch Like A Girl course has set up her own fitness classes to help people cope with the stresses of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Rebecca Allen, who learned to box at Winchester ABC and hails from the city, received her lanyard after passing at Poseidon ABC in February (pictured below), along with 14 other women.
Since then, she has decided to use her knowledge to good effect, delivering a wide range of outdoor boxing-related fitness classes since the national lockdown eased, including women-only bootcamps, women’s refuge sessions, and 1-2-1s for children with anxiety and mental health issues.
“I decided to step out of my comfort zone after previously helping out and training myself down at the local club for many years,” said Allen.
“During the pandemic I reached out to people as I knew a lot were struggling not only mentally but physically with not having been able to train and get out.
“For many people, places like a boxing club is a safe haven and a place to go to escape reality for an hour and forget what everything else that is going on in our lives. We can let off steam.
“I wanted to give back to people what boxing and fitness has done to me throughout the years, with the benefits fitness has on our mental wellbeing sometimes going undetected, which I know having started to box myself after experiencing some major trauma.”
