Yorkshire club Vulcan Boxing has featured in national newspaper The Times for its work in engaging with female boxers in its local community.

In conjunction with charity Sported, the Hull-based club has been running the Secure Futures programme for young women of all backgrounds as a way of boosting self-esteem and confidence, as well as fitness.

“I was quite frightened of my own shadow. I wouldn’t really speak to anybody,” said attendee Sophie Eldred-Parkinson, 25-year-old, who has since thrived after previously being in an abusive relationship and suffering with mental health problems.

Vulcan Boxing is part of the Vulcan Centre, a charity that provides sport, recreational activities and study programmes to improve the futures of young people.
