Member clubs hit the 1,000 mark thanks to hard work of volunteers

England Boxing is delighted have reached 1,000 member clubs for the first time since records were digitalised.

At the time of writing, member clubs for the 2022-23 season now total 1,013 (including City of Hereford, pictured), eclipsing the 2021-22 season’s final total of 995 clubs.

Individual members currently number 25,508, with almost two months remaining to top the 25,665 members who joined up last season.

“During my 20-plus years in the sport, I remember a time when there were fewer than 500 amateur boxing clubs in the country,” said Avoen Perryman, England Boxing’s Interim Head of Operations. “To look back at that now, with a membership base of 1,000 clubs and counting, I truly cannot believe how far we have come as a sport.

“It’s particularly pleasing to see this happening given the fact that we have not long since come through the Covid-19 crisis. It’s great to see how well the sport has recovered and has not just bounced back but is thriving.

“None of this is possible, of course, without the thousands of hours of time given up by our volunteers, and the dedication of our boxers alike.

“I just want to thank our members –  clubs, volunteers and boxers – as well as England Boxing staff for helping to grow the sport to the position it is in now.

“It gives me great pleasure to see we have now passes 1,000 clubs and we will continue to strive to ‘inspire and transform lives’, as per our strategy, every day.”
