Boxers on the England Boxing DiSE Programme enjoyed a two-week work experience programme in Tenerife this month, where they taught Spanish students the fundamentals of boxing.

20 boxers combined from centres across the programme and descended on Puerto De La Cruz in the north of Tenerife between Tuesday 13th and Tuesday 27th June 2023, as part of the two-week work experience programme rolled out for DiSE students by Erasmus – an EU student exchange programme.

The DiSE boxers went into Spanish schools in the local area and taught the fundamentals of boxing to students, alongside providing fun activity sessions.

The Spanish students ranged between three to 16-years-old, meaning DiSE boxers were forced to adapt their sessions based on their class age group and improve their teaching abilities.

Outside of the ring, they also took part in classroom-based activities to help Spanish students improve their English.

As part of the trip, boxers took part in a training camp which featured an eight-mile run-up Mount Tiede, sparring and pad work.

It wasn’t all work though, as downtime consisted of trips to Loro Parque Zoo, Siam Water Park, surfing and whale watching.

The students were joined by Michael Biggs (The Factory), Gavin Rickelton and Steve Cranston (Kenton) and Ivan Cobb and Alan Keast of Tamworth.
