England Boxing Reaction to Commonwealth Games Inclusion

Glasgow has revealed that it will be hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games and will only be including 10 sports on the roster for the multi-sport event.

England Boxing are delighted to see that boxing will be involved once again and is set to showcase the up-and-coming talent our nation has to offer.

The Games were last held in the Scottish city ten years ago and it will now take place across four venues between 23rd July and 2nd August 2026. Glasgow won the bid after Australia’s Victoria was no longer able to run the prestigious event.

Although seventeen sports were expected, Glasgow will now feature the ones listed below alongside boxing:

• Swimming and para-swimming
• Athletics and para-athletics (track and field only)
• Artistic Gymnastics
• Track and Cycling and para-trackcycling
• Netball
• Weightlifting and para-powerlifting
• Boxing 
• Judo
• Bowls and para-bowls 
• 3×3 Basketball and para basketball

Speaking on the news, Head of Performance, Chris Connelly, said: “I’m thrilled that boxing remains part of the Commonwealth Games 2026 line-up. 

This inclusion provides a crucial platform for our athletes to showcase their skills on an international stage, reinforcing the sport’s rich tradition within the Commonwealth.
