Students’ sponsored Snowdon boxing session hits the heights

Students from Queensberry AP and Central Lancaster High School have completed a sponsored climb to the summit of Snowdon, where they took part in a boxing session aptly named #PadsAtThePeak in aid of young carers in their home city.

An initial target of £1,000 was smashed as more than £1,600 was raised for Barnardo’s to fund much-needed respite activities for those who have look after people with a physical disability, mental health issues or drug and alcohol related problems.

The students have been working with the programme since January when they were referred to the provision to support with their engagement with school and prevent them from becoming permanently excluded.

Queensberry AP use boxing to complement their educational learning, with all attending students have successfully achieved their England Boxing JBO status.

It has also helped participants build their elf-esteem, discipline and resilience.

During the programme students have taken part in a variety of workshops to support with their behaviour and engagement and attended weekly boxing sessions.

They have also visited the Team GB and England Boxing HQ at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, training in the Lion’s Den.

Queensberry AP have now started to offer lunchtime boxing activities at the school are developing further sessions to support students’ school engagement.
