Competition wins for DiSE London duo
It’s been a fantastic month for two young boxers on the Spotlight London DISE programme.
Afewee BC boxer Vivien Parsons triumphed in the NABGCs and the England Boxing Women’s Winter Box Cup 2019.
Parsons picked up the NABGC title at 60kg (Class B) in Bridlington, beating Millie Jukes (Burmantofts) via unanimous decision.
A week later the 16-year-old from Brixton picked up the title at 63kg in the women-only competition at the Guildford Spectrum, beating very good opposition from Ireland and the Netherlands.
“It’s been a great end to the year for me,” said Vivien. “I’ve been working really hard both in the gym and on my studies but I’ve somehow balanced the two and I’ve felt really good when I’ve stepped in the ring. It’s been a tough few weeks but really enjoyable.”
Billy Adams of Dagenham BC, meanwhile, had three victories in three days to land the Odivelas Box Cup 57kg title, beating good opposition from Portugal and Ireland to claim the gold.
He said: “I’m six out of six this season which is just the start I wanted. I’ve got the Youth Championships coming up (in February), so it’s been ideal preparation and has done my confidence a world of good.”
DiSE London boxing coach Mark Collings has been very impressed by the two boxers on the course.
He added: “To balance your studies and training is not an easy thing to do, but these two have done it brilliantly and the results have been phenomenal.
“It’s credit to them and their clubs that they have such great attitudes and put the work in with great enthusiasm. They’ve really set the standards this past few months.”
