Caroline Dubois has been named this year’s BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

The Repton boxer was nominated by England Talent Pathway staff after another hugely successful year.

Dubois edged out Para-swimmer Maisie Summers-Newton and skateboarder Sky Brown to win the award, and she was presented with her trophy at BBC Radio 1’s Teen Awards.

Dubois’ place on the final shortlist had come after the 18-year-old retained her England Boxing National Youth Championships title in February at the Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury.

And she also ensured back-to-back EUBC European Youth Championships titles by winning gold in Sofia, Bulgaria in September.

Her victory in the Balkans at 60kg – clinching her place in top of the podium with a 4-1 victor over Russia’s Nune Asatrian – stretched her unbeaten run to 40 bouts and saw her claim a fourth European triumph in the process.

Dubois, who has moved onto the GB programme recently, hopes to be in contention for a place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

However, if she is to compete in the Far East next summer, she would first have to get the nod by Team GB in a tough selection process and then also earn a qualification spot at the London qualification event in March.
