Tamworth Boxing has been a busy centre for the delivery of England Boxing coach education for many years – and last week was one of the busiest ever.

The week began with 10 of the England Boxing DISE students undertaking their Level 1 Coaching qualifications from Monday to Thursday, with all being successful.

The course was led by Alan Keast, Manager of The Corner Post Centre which also incorporates Tamworth Boxing, along with Ivan Cobb, DiSE Midlands’ programme leader.

On Saturday (18th June) the ground floor of the CornerPost Education Centre hosted the final portion of an England Boxing Level 2 Coaching Course, including the assessment day, enabling nine coaches to emerge with their Level 2 qualifications in place.

Meanwhile, on the first floor, there was an England Boxing Level 1 Coaching Course taking place, with 17 candidates completing their second weekend to successfully take the first step on the England Boxing coaching pathway.

Keast undertook the Level 2 delivery, with the valued support of John Dennis from Eastern Counties independently assessing the candidates, while the Level 1 Course was delivered by England Boxing’s Club Support Officer for the Midlands, Mick Maguire.

“It has been a great week,” said Keast. “The DISE programme is delivered here at The CornerPost Education Centre and giving the students the opportunity to enter the coaching pathway at an early age has proved to be a very popular choice with them, and the feedback from the coaching course has been tremendous.

“During the course of this week, across all the activity, we have now helped create 28 new Level 1 coaches and nine new Level 2 coaches.”
