It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of James “Sharpy” Sharp, a beloved coach, mentor, and friend, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on December 11th, 2024, at just 40 years old.

His loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the boxing community, particularly at White Rose and Castleford Boxing Academy, where he dedicated himself to nurturing young talent and guiding vulnerable youth towards a brighter future.

Previously leading Castleford Boxing Academy, James transitioned to White Rose in November 2023, bringing with him a squad of talented competitive boxers. In the short time he was with the club, he became an integral part of it and was adored by all who trained under him. His selflessness and dedication shone through until the very end—allowing his boxers to visit him in his final days, despite the precious time he had left with his own family and children. His funeral saw an overwhelming turnout, with hundreds in attendance, including all of the White Rose boxers, a true testament to the profound impact he had on their lives.

To honour his memory, White Rose Boxing Club now wear purple, the color of the pancreatic cancer awareness ribbon, ensuring that James’ legacy continues to shine within the sport. His final wish was for his boxers to compete internationally this season—an aspiration that the club is determined to fulfill in his name.

Rest in peace, James.
