Boxing clubs can apply for more than £4million available to grassroots sport in the UK through the Clubs In Crisis Fund.
Made By Sport has today (12th April) launched the fund, which will provide support to clubs and organisations from across the UK who has faced income problems as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Over the next nine months, unrestricted grants of £2021 will be awarded to thousands of clubs and community clubs playing an essential role in helping young people to recover from the effects of Covid-19.
The funding has been launched now as sport begins its long-awaited return to play across England and the rest of the UK in the upcoming weeks – with today’s reopening of boxing gyms part of that process.
Clubs who support young people to develop life skills, such as teamwork and communication, employability skills, physical and mental wellbeing as well as building stronger communities, are able to apply for the funding by clicking here.
The fund, supported by Flutter Entertainment’s Cash4Clubs scheme, forms the next phase of the ‘Clubs in Crisis’ campaign run by Made By Sport, which has highlighted the challenges community clubs and organisations have faced to stay afloat during the Coronavirus pandemic, and their role in developing positive futures for young people.
Research, conducted by Newton for Made By Sport in 2020, revealed that before the pandemic, over 40% of local community sports clubs were either in deficit or just breaking even, with the pandemic putting over 25% of community clubs at risk of permanent closure.
Young people who are physically active thanks to their local sports clubs and organisations can show up to seven times better levels of teamwork, six times better levels of greater resilience and five times better communication skills, showing the vital impact clubs can have on future generations.
Sophie Mason, CEO of Made By Sport, said: “We’re delighted that the Clubs In Crisis Fund is now open.
“We’re all facing the challenge to recover from the disastrous effects of the pandemic and we believe that sport provides the best solution to help young people thrive. If you are a club in need then please apply as we are here to help!”
