A new tournament will be added to the amateur boxing calendar in memory of Ed Bilbey and will be open to all national and international boxers.

The ‘Ed Bilbey Box Cup’ will take place at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre in Lincolnshire between the dates of 17th – 19th May 2024.

The seventeen-year-old sadly lost his life in 2017 after competing for an East Midlands Youth welterweight title and is often remembered for his determination to “be the best” within the sport.

The aim of the event is to keep Bilbey’s legacy alive and all of the profit from it will go towards the ‘Ed Bilbey Fund’ which will support clubs with lifesaving boxing courses and equipment to keep boxers safe.

Michelle Bilbey, Ed’s mother and a member of the organising committee has said:

“This Box Cup will be special because I want it to represent everything that should keep boxers safe, it will have real meaning.

“I’d like for it to mean more than just another trophy for beating an opponent, I’d love for it to mean as much to those that take part as it does for our family.

“Ed made great sacrifices to try and be the best – that strength is an inspiration to me and I hope it will be to you too.”

Further information on entry forms, age & weight categories will be released over the next couple of months across social media.
