England Boxing was awarded ‘Employer of the Year’ at the 9th Annual Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards, held on Friday, November 1st, at the NEC in Birmingham.
The exciting event celebrates talent and diversity, honouring individuals who have worked hard to overcome challenges and achieve success through apprenticeships. The awards ceremony was hosted by 2020 Apprentice of the Year, Kimmy Kimani Hobbs, alongside broadcaster Tommy Sandhu.
This win highlights the remarkable impact of England Boxing’s Apprenticeship Programme over the past two years. Initially launched in partnership with Coach Core and Lifetime Learning and funded through Birmingham 2022’s Sport Participation, Innovation, and Digital Fund, the programme welcomed ten apprentices aged 16-25 for a 15-month placement with the National Governing Body.
Following its success, the initiative continued into a second year, adding three additional roles based in both community settings and at England Boxing headquarters in the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.
Representatives from Coach Core, Becki Fitzgerald and Phil West, attended on the night to receive the prestigious accolade on behalf of the programme.
Speaking on the win, England Boxing Club & Community Manager, Louise Vidor said: “This award marks the great work and real impact we have made both within England Boxing and in the communities that we serve. It’s also a testament to the supportive partnerships we have built through this programme with Coach Core and Lifetime Learning, together, we’re so proud of just how far the apprentices have come and are excited to see how the programme will continue to thrive.”
