England Boxing is supporting UK Coaching this UK Coaching Week 2023, as it aims to educate people about the critical role of Duty to Care in coaching and its impact on the nation’s health and well-being.

This year’s theme reflects the importance of coaches putting people – their safety, well-being and welfare – at the centre of their coaching practice and learning how to better care for their participants, as well as themselves.

Duty to Care also has an integral role to play in improving people’s mental health and well-being and can be a key tool for solving deep-rooted social issues. Learning more about the principles of Duty to Care, by accessing the Duty to Care Hub, will equip coaches with ideas and strategies for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at and beyond their sessions.

By embracing their Duty to Care, coaches can help ensure that the people they coach enjoy a great experience that encourages lifelong participation.

England Boxing and UK Coaching are encouraging coaches to:

  • Join the movement of coaches committed to creating a culture of care in sports and physical activity
  • Lead by example and embody the values of Duty to Care in everything they do as a coach
  • Champion the movement by encouraging others to dedicate themselves to continuous learning, growth, and development around the six pillars of Duty to Care.

The resources in the hub spotlight the importance of coaches having a detailed knowledge and understanding of the six pillars that are fundamental to delivering great coaching experiences:

  • Diversity – Providing equality of opportunity without discrimination
  • Inclusion – Tailoring delivery to a wide range of audiences and how you engage and empower people to keep them involved
  • Mental Health and Well-being – Supporting psychological and emotional well-being
  • Physical Well-being – Encouraging physical activity, healthy habits and recovery to prevent illness and injury
  • Safeguarding – Protecting people from harmful practices in sports and physical activity
  • Safe to Practice – Ensuring participant safety and working within the scope of practice.
