England Boxing to launch Veterans Project
July 17, 2023 | by Chris Boyd
England Boxing is delighted to announce the launch of the Veterans Project (VP) and would like to invite England Boxing-affiliated clubs to apply to host the project at their club.
England Boxing is looking for 10 clubs across the country to participate in the first-ever cohort of the Veterans Project, which will go live in September of this year.
The project will be a 12-month journey, delivering 90-minute sessions over 46 weeks to provide our Veterans with boxing and space to rekindle the bond they miss after leaving The Forces.
Sessions will consist of one hour of boxing and 30 minutes of socialising.
The sport of boxing and life in the Forces share many qualities you need to be successful.
You need courage, discipline, respect, a good work ethic and high fitness levels to do either.
With 10 clubs to be selected for the project, England Boxing aims to reach 200 veterans across the country, with each club looking after 20.
Selected clubs will receive £1500 each, along with 20 pairs of Veterans Project-branded gloves, hand wraps, skipping ropes and a Veterans Project plaque to display.
Clubs wishing to participate in the VP should either have a Veterans Project currently running or be able to organise one to begin through their local authorities or local Veterans Centre/Organisations.
Clubs will have to source Veterans themselves.
