England to compete on home soil against Germany and Ireland next month

England Performance have selected 12 boxers for the upcoming all-senior ‘Roaring Lions International’, which will take place at Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Rotherham on Friday 7th February 2025 from 6pm.
The event will act as a curtain raiser to the National Youth Championships, and admission will be available on the door only, with tickets listed at £15 for adults, £5 for children/concessions and under 5s going free.
Head of Performance at England Boxing Chris Connelly said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to host the upcoming Roaring Lions international, marking the first time in quite some time that we’ve held an event like this.
“Germany and Ireland are bringing some exceptional talent, and we’re expecting high-quality, competitive bouts that will really showcase the best of international boxing.
“For our England Boxing Senior Performance Programme athletes, it’s a fantastic opportunity to continue developing their skills in a competitive environment. What makes this event even more special is the chance for them to perform in front of friends, family, and supporters—something they rarely get to do, as they usually compete abroad. We’re looking forward to an incredible event!”
The selected squad boast over 25 National Championships between them and shares a plethora of box cup and international honours also.
One of those selected is Madi Gittins (St Pauls) and she’s excited to perform in front of familiar faces: “I’m really excited to box for my country on home soil, and to have my friends and family watch me represent England. They don’t usually get the chance as we typically box abroad.”
West Ham’s Freddie Pullen will compete in an Under 60kg bout against Germany and has cited next week’s BoxAm training camp as the perfect preparation: “Training has been going well for the upcoming bout.
“We’ve had multiple camps in Sheffield and we’re flying out to Spain next week to take part in a sparring camp with countries from all over the world. I’m feeling more than ready for this duel.”
