Free boxing training for young people in Westminster
June 26, 2020 | by Matt Halfpenny
Rathbone Amateur Boxing Club is launching free boxing training for young people in Westminster aged 13 to 25 years in a bid to make boxing accessible for all.
From 7th July, #FightTogetherWestminster will deliver sessions three times a week via experienced coaches who are England Boxing-affiliated and also accredited with Westminster Active.
Funded by a grant from the Westminster Community Contribution Fund, training will take place via Zoom calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 10am, with no previous experience or equipment required.
While online sessions ensures full compliance with the government’s Covid-19 guidelines in the short term, the intention is to begin in-person training in Rathbone’s gym once restrictions are lifted.
Participants will be able to increase their fitness, technical skills, and confidence levels and, at the end of the programme, have a pathway into the amateur club where they can continue their boxing journey.
The London club’s latest initiative follows a women-only programme #FightTogether, which was established earlier this month.
