Jonas and Murray visit DiSE Programme at the Joe Gallagher Academy ahead of Open Day

The Joe Gallagher Academy, home of the DISE programme in the North West, recently welcomed Natasha Jonas and Judy Murray for an episode of the documentary Driving Force.
The opportunity came about through the work that Joe has done world title challenger Jonas as inspiring to women in sport and the next generation coming through.
The idea was to showcase the future talent making their way through and also the success the academy has already had in producing talented female boxers.
Driving Forces, featuring mother of tennis star Andy Murray, Judy, is about levelling up the playing field and introducing girls and young women to sport as a career, in this case boxing.
DiSE boxer Paige Howarth, who is competing in the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2022 this weekend, told the Manchester Evening News. “I want to be the best. I started quite late, I have only been boxing two years, so I started later than my opponents.
“But it’s that drive, when you find something that you are good at and that you are passionate about, you just want to give it your all, and have no regrets.”
Meanwhile, the Joe Gallagher Academy, is having a DISE Programme Open Day on Saturday 26th February.
It will take place from 10am to 12noon at the Manchester Youth Zone, Harpurhey, M9 8AE.
Those who attend should bring training kit for a practical assessment.
The Level 3 Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) qualification supports talented and committed young athletes who have realistic potential to be high achievers in their sport.
It is the officially-endorsed boxing education programme supported and recognised by England Boxing.
With a value of 64 UCAS points, it combines boxing and full-time education so participants have the skills, knowledge and competence to pursue sporting excellence alongside education and a future career.
DiSE offers aspiring boxers aged 16 to 19 the chance to train full-time in boxing while also studying full-time to gain qualifications that will benefit them outside of the ring.
