Level 3 and Level 4 Coach Online Programme: more sessions on the way
February 14, 2021 | by Matt Halfpenny
A second session of England Boxing’s Level 3 and Level 4 Coach Online Programme has now been put in the diary for April.
It follow on from a first session delivered by Microsoft Teams that was attended virtually by 19 coaches – and was well received.
Coaches who attended the introduction explored some initial topics around boxer development via virtual break rooms to facilitate interaction and the sharing of views and experiences.
It was established that regular meet-ups every two months will now go ahead on Saturday mornings between 9.30am and 12.30pm.
The initial session also helped to set the agenda for those to come, and the following topics agreed as worth further discussion:
- Skill Acquisition and Development
- Applied Psychology
- Video and Performance Analysis
- Development Vs Performance
- Mental Health for Boxers and Coaches
- Coach Self-Awareness
- Role of mentoring (relationship between Boxer and Coach)
- Working with Officials
- Strength and Speed Development
- Nutrition
- Application and understanding Boxing Rules
- Coaching from the Corner.
The long-term aim of England Boxing is to provide ongoing support to Level 3 and Level 4 Coaches via sharing the latest knowledge and understanding from the areas of sport science, learning, skill development and coaching practice.
“We have tried a number of online coach learning programmes, which started with the Female Programme, and the plan has always been to offer something for the Level 3 and Level 4 Coaches, so I am glad we have started the process of engaging and uniting everyone,” said England Boxing’s Coaching Consultant, Chris Porter.
“Online learning and communities of coaching practice during this testing time will play a vital part to provide ongoing support to coaches and the first session we tried was great.
“Coaches were engaged and the small virtual break out rooms offered more space and time for coach interaction and discussion. We want coaches to aspire to this level of learning and development.”
Level 3 and Level 4 coaches who are interested in Attending April’s next session need to register their interest with England Boxing via administration@englandboxing.org, where you can also enquire to find out more details.
