Richard Longthorp from Goole is back with a bold new challenge to raise more funds and awareness for Parkinson’s UK. The 70-year-old, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s seven years ago, is setting his sights on an incredible goal: completing 1 million press-ups while encouraging others to join him in the effort, this time.

Having already raised £22,000 for Parkinson’s initiatives, Richard is building on his previous success to inspire others. His passion for fundraising was sparked through boxing sessions at St. Paul’s Boxing Academy, where he connected with others from the Parkinson’s community who were facing similar challenges. His last fundraising effort involved completing 1,000 push-ups daily for an entire month, culminating in an astonishing 2,000 push-ups on the final day.

Now, Richard is expanding the challenge to a wider audience. “Anyone can take part,” he says. “All you need is the ability to do press-ups, along with the determination, willpower, and resilience to keep going for 31 days.” Participants can do their push-ups anywhere, at any time of day during January 2025. Richard plans to match his previous effort, committing to a high daily count of 10,000 press-ups to inspire others.

The challenge will wrap up with an exciting 24-hour ‘Press-Up Marathon.’ This final event invites participants to do as many or as few press-ups as they like, with people joining and leaving throughout the day. It’s a chance for everyone to make a final push – literally – and support this incredible cause.

Richard hopes this initiative will not only continue to support Parkinson’s initiatives but also inspire a sense of community and perseverance among participants. By encouraging others to take on the challenge, he aims to show that small, consistent efforts can lead to significant change—not just for those living with Parkinson’s but for anyone striving to overcome personal challenges.
