Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club has been named the winner of the prestigious Community Impact Award at the recent BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Make a Difference Awards.

The award ceremony took place on 6th September at the Hinxton Hall near Cambridge, celebrating individuals and organizations making a meaningful difference in their local communities.

Club coach, Lee Pearce and his son Alfie, who is also a boxer at the club, attended the event to accept the award on behalf of Peterborough Police ABC, while the rest of the team competed in Devon at the Barum Box Cup.

Founded by serving police officers, Chris and Vicki Baker, the boxing club focuses on helping young people manage aggression and behavioural challenges through the sport. The club received the nomination from a grateful parent whose son has greatly benefited from its programmes and increased in confidence.

Vicki Baker highlighted the club’s impact, saying,: “We are one family, and it seems strange when you say it because everyone has come from such different backgrounds.

From speaking to some children, if they didn’t have the gym, they probably would be hanging about the street and getting involved in antisocial behaviour.”
