Redcar Boxing Club prospect Keira Bowden has been honoured at a special reception held by her local Mayor.

The 16-year-old was presented with flowers and congratulated by the Major of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Stuart Smith.

Keira was recognised after winning an England Boxing National Junior Championships 2022 title and a GB Junior and Youth Three Nations gold medal in the same 2022-23 season.

She won the nationals at The Guildford Spectrum in March, beating Millie Fairfax (Titians) by a split decision in her final.

Her GB Junior and Three Nations success came last month same against the same opponent, underlining her position as the best in Britain at her weight.

Keira trains every day and has been boxing since she was eight years old.

“We are incredibly proud of Keira and her fantastic achievements,” Cllr Smith told Gazette Live. “She has already done us so proud, and we can’t wait to see where her career takes her next.”

Keira added: “Savannah Marshall is my boxing hero. My ambition is to go pro and compete at the Commonwealth Games but becoming World Champion is my absolute dream, I train non-stop because it’s my passion; I love it.”
