The Royal Marines boxing team stepped up their training for the new season of competition by travelling to Spain to attend the Totana sparring camp.

All those who made the trip were able to test their skills against boxers from all levels from various clubs across Europe.

The week comprised of daily runs on the flats or in the mountains, before later moving onto the sparring, which lasted three to four hours each day, in four rings.

In addition to the training, the Royal Marines’ Head Coach, Marc Bird, delivered presentations on Human Performance and Nutrition.

These presentations were opened up to other team coaches who were very appreciative.

Bird said: “The boxers and coaches took a lot away from the sparring camp, which was our aim.

“The whole set up was so professionally run by the Sam Storey and his wife Lisa, that we will be looking to do it again. Both Lisa and Sam went the extra mile to make sure all teams were catered for.”

Halfway through the week everyone had the opportunity to go to the beach to relax – something that was well received by all of the teams.
