England Boxing is encouraging boxers and clubs to support those who are observing Ramadan, which lasts from the evening of Wednesday 22nd March to the evening of Friday 21st April.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

Over the next month, many Muslim members of England Boxing will be observing Ramadan by fasting for 30 days. It is an extremely important practice for those who follow the Islamic faith, and one that requires a great deal of dedication to fast from dawn to dusk.

The infographic below has been created for members to gain an awareness of Ramadan, and suggests ways in which clubs and coaches can support their members over the period.

It also includes ideas for events clubs could host, encouraging all members to come together to learn about and celebrate other cultures, regardless of their own backgrounds.

“The diversity of England Boxing’s membership is something that we are extremely proud of, and it’s vital we support all our members,” said Chloe Hawes, England Boxing’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

“Embedding inclusion all the way through the organisation – from grassroots clubs right to the very top – is very important to us. We would like to take the opportunity to wish Ramadan Mubarak to everyone!”
