‘WOMEN BOX… PERIOD!’ Campaign
May 17, 2022 | by Matt Halfpenny
Kronik Warrior Adaptive Boxing Academy are launching new initiative to provide free feminine hygiene products to the amateur boxing clubs in Yorkshire and the North West.
Aimed at helping encourage more women and girls into the sport of boxing, give coaches the confidence to support women’s health matters, and fight to end period poverty as a reason for women to avoid sport.
“Record numbers of girls joining boxing clubs and training alongside boys is becoming a natural occurrence.
“But how many of these clubs provide basic sanitary provisions in their toilets – the answer, sadly, is very few!”
Kronik Warrior UK director and lead coach Luiz ‘Kronik Warrior’ Faye ambassador for @girlsjustwannabox said of the challenges she was trying to overcome: “Kronik Warrior UK will provide sanitary products in all clubs that deliver boxing classes.
“The colourful packs have booklets with FAQs from young girls experiencing their periods whilst taking part in sport, created by Lil-Lets.”
Luiz is currently evolving the campaign to provide feminine hygiene products for the 226 active England Boxing clubs in Yorkshire and the North West with the long-term plan to roll out this initiative across the U.K.
They believe that through the #womenboxperiod campaign that clubs will see how important these basic supplies will assist girls to be more confident and will be more open to approaching their coaches.
Creating a much more relaxed environment instead of the current awkwardness.
“I believe that through the #womenboxperiod campaign that clubs will see how important these basic supplies will assist girls to be more confident and will be more open to approaching their coaches and even in this small way assist in creating a much more relaxed environment instead of the current awkwardness.
“Together let’s start the conversation, WOMEN BOX… PERIOD!”
If the campaign is successful, there are plans to roll this out beyond the UK into other countries.
