Women’s Aspire: Schools and Juniors bring 2023 programme to an end

The School and Junior attendees of the England Boxing Women’s Aspire Programme 2023, enjoyed their third and final session on Sunday 19th November, at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Led by Pathway Development Coach, Laura Sargeant, the camp aimed to re-enforce the teachings of the previous two sessions and provide the boxers with key takeaways as they leave the programme behind in 2023.
The day included practices which aimed to further develop their skills. The group were able to do this by working in a 1-2-1 space during pad work and sparring.
Outside of the ring, the group took part in a peer-led analysis session, discussing how to tactically prepare to take on an opponent.
They did this by analysing the strengths and weaknesses in their performance, before deploying their theories into shadowboxing to help drive home the use of analysis and how to do it.
Speaking about the final session of the year for School and Junior boxers, Sargeant said: “It was a brilliant way to end the programme for 2023. The boxers have left with new tools, more friends and a huge smile on their faces!
“We also had a little CPD for the coaches with a reflection session, discussing their takeaways from the programme, what they would use in their clubs and what areas of development they would like to work on for themselves.
“I would also like to add a huge thank you to all the coaches from the Pathway, the Women’s Coach Development Programme and the regions that have helped make Women’s Aspire 2023 a success. They have played a vital part in the development of 139 boxers across the year!”
